DINOSAUR, Colo. (KJCT) — A new fossil was discovered at Dinosaur National Monument over the weekend.

Construction in the monument’s parking lot revealed an undiscovered fossil near the Quarry Exhibit Hall by park staff.

Paleontologists identified the fossil to be part of a diplodocus, a long-neck dinosaur commonly found in the area.

This would be the first fossil excavation in the area since 1924. The fossil is now being moved to be cleaned and studied in the museum’s fossil lab.
