IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A wrong-way driver fled the scene after causing a multi-vehicle crash on I-70, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

CSP said troopers responded to I-70 east of Idaho Springs for a report of a wrong-way driver that caused a crash between two other vehicles Wednesday night around 10:45.

According to troopers, a Subaru Crosstrek entered the eastbound lanes while traveling west near the on-ramp of Highway 40. When the driver attempted to conduct a U-turn to head in the correct direction, a Honda Accord then collided with the passenger side of the wrong-way vehicle.

A Toyota Avalon then reportedly struck the back of the Accord.

CSP said the Accord driver, a 32-year-old Central City woman, was taken to a hospital as a precaution but was released with no injuries.

Troopers said the driver of the Crosstrek fled the scene.

According to CSP, the Crosstrek driver, 40-year-old Denver man Eric Smith, later turned himself in to the State Patrol. He was cited for Reckless Driving (Safety Zone), Failed to Give Information or Aid After Damaging Another Vehicle, Failed to Notify Police of Accident and Drove Vehicle Wrong Way on One-Way Roadway.

The investigation is ongoing.
