WILDFIRE ALERT: Intense fire triggers evacuations for Hotchkiss area

HOTCHKISS, Colo. (KJCT) — A new wildfire has ignited in the agricultural region between Hotchkiss and Delta.

The fire is burning too intensely for firefighters to engage on the ground, Hotchkiss Fire District said. Nearby residents are being evacuated. Firefighters urged anyone who thinks they might be in danger from the fire to get out as soon as possible, even before firefighters tell them to evacuate.

Aerial resources have been called in to help manage the intense blaze. Hotchkiss firefighters on the ground are engaged in efforts to protect nearby buildings.

Firefighters said more information on evacuations would be coming soon.
