GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Carrying guns into some county facilities is now legal
Local government was given the ability to opt out of preventing a person from knowingly carrying a firearm into local government chambers or offices. Governor Polis signed Senate Bill 131 in May.
Mesa County commissioners voted to approve a resolution specifying which county government spaces people cannot open or conceal carry a gun.
The county does not allow guns inside the Mesa County Justice Center, Criminal Justice Services, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Detention Facility.
Residents will be able to carry firearms in existing county facilities except those controlled by the offices named above when the bill goes into effect on July 1.
