Free seminar helps Grand Junction seniors plan their next chapter
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) — As people get older, the idea of downsizing can bring a mix of emotions and uncertainty. That’s why Debbie Rich, of Next Chapter, is helping seniors prepare for what’s next through a free seminar Wednesday.
Rich said many seniors she has worked with were unsure what their future would look like and needed guidance on everything from housing options to long-term planning. The seminar will feature 10 speakers who will help attendees navigate the downsizing process and make informed decisions about the next stage of life.
While many people associate downsizing with moving into a smaller home, Rich said it’s often about finding a living situation that better fits a person’s lifestyle. That could mean less maintenance, fewer stairs, more freedom to travel, or simply a home that’s easier to manage.
Rich encourages people to start planning early, often around age 65, to avoid having major decisions made during a health crisis or leaving those choices to family members.
“The biggest benefit is peace of mind,” Rich said. “Having a plan allows you to stay in control of your future.”
The Next Chapter seminar will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Grand Junction Recreation Center, 2836 Recreation Way. Admission is free.
