OLATHE, Colo. ***UPDATE***

Preliminary autopsy results released from the Mount Crested Butte Police Department show that Luis Olide died of multiple traumatic chest injuries while skiing at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Friday, January 23rd.

Although it has not been confirmed by law enforcement they believe the manner of death indicates the boy hit a tree while skiing on an intermediate trail on the mountain.

The 8th grader of Olathe was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Olathe Middle/High School continues to mourn the loss of a student who died on Friday during an annual skiing trip in Crested Butte.

According to Crested Butte Mountain Resort, at around 2:00 P.M. this past Friday, Luis Olide was involved in a fatal ski accident on an intermediate trail on the mountain.

To honor his life, many students came to school on Monday dressed up in Luis' usual school attire, a nice shirt and tie.

Olathe students say they'll miss seeing their classmate walking down the halls.

“He was a good kid and an awesome friend,” says 8th grader Brandon Ramirez.

“It was very quiet and peaceful, probably one of the quietest days at school,” says 7th grader, Ryan Eberle.

As of Monday afternoon, the Mountain Crested Butte Police Department had not released the cause of death for the young man.

Small group talks and one-on-one time with school-based counselors will be made available for students throughout the week to help them through the grieving process.
