WSL championship swimming meet begins

Hundreds of swimmers ages eight to 13 gathered at CMU El Pomar Natatorium to compete in the Western Slope League Championship meet.

Events included the 100 freestyle, 25 butterfly and 100 medley relays just to name a few.

"A lot of our eight and under's have potential in our group but the nine and ten-year-old's are definitely super speedy," Maverick aquatics coach Abbie Porter says. "I love what they're doing so as long as they love what they're doing for the next eight years then hopefully they can start swimming at CMU soon."

The three-day competition will continue at 8 A.M. tomorrow with the meet concluding Sunday afternoon.

"I think the sport is growing," Maverick Aquatics swimmer Emma Kimbrough says. "I think that's good. I like meeting new people from different teams all over the western part of Colorado. I think that's really cool."

Winners qualify for the state meet in Ft. Collins July 20-22 and 23-30 at the Edora Pool Center.
