Special Olympics meets the X Games

The Special Olympics Unified snowboarding event returned for its fourth year at the Winter X-Games in 2018.

The event included eight two person teams with one professional action sports athlete and one Special Olympics athlete. The winners were determined by the combined best time of each team.

The competition was fierce with the difference between the gold and bronze medals being just four-tenths of a second. This years gold medal went to Henry Meece and Aspen's own Chris Klug.

Whether the athletes were taking home a medal or not it was still an experience that they will never forget.

"The best thing about the event is to have fun and have have a great time with your friends and family," said Special Olympics athlete Cody Field.
