HS basketball: Palisade girls, Durango boys nab District 4A titles
***CORRECTION*** Game-winning shot: Christa Brown
Palisade girls basketball pulls off the upset against the No. 1 seeded Montrose Indians 35-33 on Saturday afternoon.
After trailing the Lady Indians well into the third quarter, the Bulldogs turned up the heat on defense to eventually take the lead 29-27 with just over two minutes left in regulation.
It would be Montrose's Bryce Gatt to knot the game up at 29 with a last chance bucket to send the game into overtime. From there, the defensive struggle continued between both squads. Christa Brown shot the game-winning, long ball with just under 30 seconds on the clock to seal the deal for Palisade.
On the boys side, it was another defensive struggle. Rifle would be the first to strike, sinking a free throw and then following up with a bomb form downtown by Luis Carreon.
Durango kept it close though, getting on the board with a layup from Scott Morse to make it 4-2 with 2:38 left in the first quarter. This match-up went wire to wire, but it's the Demons who came out on top 29-26 to win the 4A boys District title.
