HS Girls Basketball: Wildcats respond to critics

Fruita Monument girls basketball earned the No. 1 seed in the CHSAA Class 5A State Basketball Tournament.

However, there are those who believe the Wildcats aren't deserving of the top seed.

Kyle Newman of the Denver post writes, "Three of the Wildcats' marquee wins came against lower-classification teams (Valor Christian, Colorado Springs Christian, Pueblo West), and they didn't play near the toughness in their 5A schedule as other programs."

"It's hard to kind of not hear about those articles and things being said but I mean when you're at the top people are going to come for you and we have such a great opportunity to be at the top," said senior Riley Snyder. "So we're just going to keep going and keep our heads down do the business we need to do and let the score talk for us."

After earning a first-round bye the Wildcats will take on Fountain-Fort Carson at 5:30 P.M. at home on Friday.
