HS Basketball: Tigers motivated by end of four-peat

Grand Junction boys basketball finished in third place in the Southwestern League last season.

The Tigers won the conference each of the previous four years.

Isaac Madison has seven seniors but none with a high amount of minutes together.

One key returner is junior forward Derek Shaver. He was the team's third leading scorer last season averaging 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

"It's definitely a motivating factor when all the older guys come before you, work hard, win the league," Shaver says. "You want to do the same thing. But then again it's not always going to happen. We're excited for this year to have another opportunity. We're feel pretty good about ourselves and we're just looking forward to it."

The Tigers open up the season against Horizon on Thursday at 8 P.M. at Central High School.

It's Grand Junction's first game of the Warrior Challenge.
