GJ Rockies: Rox give up seven in third, lose 10-8

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The Grand Junction Rockies lose the series finale with the Orem Owlz, 10-8 giving the road team a 3-1 series win at Suplizio Field.

The Rockies took the lead in the first inning on a Julio Carreras RBI single to right field. They doubled their lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Walking Cabrera, 2-0 Junction.

Orem took the lead and then some in the third inning. After the Owlz tied the game on a single and a sacrifice fly, Jose Verrier hit a two-run home, his tenth of the year, to make it 4-2 Owlz. An RBI single and a two RBI double gave Orem a 7-2 lead. Grand Junction starting pitcher Mike Ruff had a rough outing giving up six runs, four earned with two walks, two strikeouts and a home run in two and a third innings.

Grand Junction scored five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings including a two RBI long ball from the bat of Reese Berberet. The Rockies would come up short, 10-8.

GJ begins a series with the first place Ogden Raptors on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 6:40 P.M.
