GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Grand Junction had four signees at their ceremony honoring the seniors moving on to play their respective sport at the collegiate level.
Jacob Melchor will play baseball at Concordia University in Nebraska. This season he has 15 strikeouts in 24 innings of work.
Hunter Tobiasson and JT Skalecki will both be roommates and wrestle at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both finished their senior seasons with a state title.
Donovan Andrus will be playing football close to home at Colorado Mesa. It's a big decision to choose which school to go to and each athlete is very excited about their next step.
"It felt pretty good knowing that I will be able to do something I love for the next four years, I'm pretty excited about that," said Melchor. "Actually, it's a dream come true. I honestly thought I'd make it to the collegiate level but here I am and I'm ready. I'm ready and excited."
"There's a really great academic opportunity any way you go," Tobiasson said. "Medicine, law anything it's really good. The wrestling program is new but I trust the coach. I'll have good practice partners. I mean, it worked once for us, right?"
"We've been good friends ever since fifth grade," said Skalecki about Tobiasson. "We went to middle school together. We've been training with each other our whole lives so nothing changing here."
"I'm just looking forward to putting on a pair, a set of pads and a helmet and just going at it," Andrus said. "Football is my stress relief. Football has been my life, like I grew up with it so continuing it means a lot to me."
