CMU wrestling: Mavs set to begin RMAC duals with New Mexico Highlands and Adams State
Breaks and time-off are a thing of the past for Colorado Mesa wrestling. It may have been a slow and steady start to the first half of the season but it's all go from here on out.
The Mavs open up conference duals with back-to-back competitions against New Mexico Highlands and Adams State on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, and to cap off an already hectic week, they’ll also be hitting the mats on Saturday for the Tracy Borah duals.
The way the RMAC championship is set up this year, titles can be won and lost all in one day at the actual championship tournament.
League duals factor into seeding and work as confidence builders for the team, both of which Head Coach Chuck Pipher says a few of his wrestlers could use a healthy dose of.
“There’s some guys that I think are on the lower end of the RMAC polls that this is going to be a good test for them to start getting their name up the rankings on the polls. You know, you got Drew Schumann that’s a national qualifier that’s not in the top six, you know I think he needs to beat some guys. Jason Buhr, you know, he's probably in the top six and you know, I think he'll be national qualifier, you know, and so, but he’s got to beat some guys along the way,” says Head Coach Chuck Pipher.
“We want win definitely all these matches, even if they don't actually mean a whole lot, but we still want to win and still want to set that statement throughout the RMAC and to know that we are can still beat everybody,” says sophomore, Jason Buhr.
