GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) In the first year of the CMU women's wrestling program, the Mavericks came away with a lot of positives including the schools first individual All-American in Sierra Brown Ton. Women's wrestling will be a program on the rise in the coming years and not only are the women dedicated on the mats, they also hit the books hard as the National Wrestling Coaches Association named CMU the inaugural NCAA Women's Scholar All-American team.
The women combined to post a 3.32 GPA besting Adrian College who had a 3.12 GPA. CMU had four individual scholar All-Americans.
Also, freshman Alma Mendoza finished second place in the Junior Pan American Championship last weekend in Guatemala. She went 2-1 in her first international competition of her career. Mendoza helped Team USA finish first with 210 team points.
