CMU Women's Basketball: Solid defense lifts Mavericks to seventh straight win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) In a clash with the two top teams in the RMAC in the final game of 2019, the Mavericks come out on top with a 44-36 victory and remain undefeated in conference play.

Defense was the name of the game coming into this one and it lived up the the hype. CMU's defense ranks the best in the nation held the Mountaineers to 27% shooting from the field. At the end of the first quarter, the teams were tied, 5-5.

Daniella Turner, two-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored a game-high 22 points in the win. It was her fifth straight 20-point game. Kelsey Seimons added to her conference leading block total with a career-high seven blocks.

The Mavericks won't play again until January 3 and 4 when they travel to South Dakota to take on South Dakota Mines and then Black Hills State.
