CMU Women's Basketball: Lady Mavs cruise in RMAC opener

CMU women's basketball was too much for Western St. as they top the Lady Mountaineers, 69-46, to open up conference play.

The Lady Mavs held Western St. to 36 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from three-point range.

"Second, third and fourth quarter I loved our defense," head coach Taylor Wagner says. "I thought the girls really committed. They stuck to our scout and what we wanted to do and accomplish in different scenarios and they did a really good job. I felt like too we kept them off the free throw line. That was one of the areas I was concerned they were going to get a lot of points from the free throw line. Just like our defense I though we were discipline."

Jaylyn Duran added a team-high 21 points in the winning effort.

CMU improves to 7-0. The Lady Mavs will host Westminster College on Thursday night. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M.
