GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) CMU's defense has been their calling card early this season. The Mavericks are scoring 20 points per game on turnovers.
This weekend, the Mavericks will have two RMAC games in Brownson Arena. The first is against a Colorado Springs team that has a record that may not indicate how difficult an opponent they are.
Head Coach Taylor Wagner said they are a scrappy team that plays hard and are fast paced. CMU hopes to counter that with strong defensive play.
"Right now, we are hanging our hat on our defense," said Wagner. "We're not great at it yet, but we are good and we want to get better with each game and each practice. If we can play good defense, we'll be in every game."
