Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) It was a beautiful and bittersweet day for softball, CMU honored the seniors Saturday morning where they were welcomed by their families. But the bitter part was the Mavs losing their first game since March 10.
Bottom of the 7th, Mavs down by 1. Runner on second and Lauren Wedman gets a walk. Two outs with runners in scoring position and pinch hitter, Alexa Samuels, who is batting over .300 this season hits to right field but it was just short of the fence.
The Mavs end their 22- game winning streak, 7 -6.
Mesa makes a complete turnaround in the second game. The Mavs scored 7 runs in the second inning.
Sarah Staudle gets it started with a ground ball to shortstop but beats the throw and she's safe at first. The Mavs back to being themselves with back to back home runs. The first by Teagan Woosley over right field and the other by Lexie Comer over left field.
Mavericks win in 5 innings, 13-3.
The Mavs remain in first place in the RMAC and there is one more series on the road next weekend before the RMAC tournament which CMU will host at the beginning of May.
