GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) CMU softball started the conference schedule undefeated 4-0 after sweeping Fort Lewis. It was a quick series with three shutout games only going five innings and junior first baseman Annmarie Torres was an offensive machine garnering an RMAC Player of the Week recognition.
Torres alone outscored the Skyhawks in the series 17-5. During the four game series, Torres hit .800 with four doubles and two home runs including a grand slam. She is a two time Third Team NFCA All-American and leads the conference with a .541 batting average and 24 RBI. The honor is nice, but the junior hopes to carry it over to the rest of conference play.
"It means a lot," said Torres. "It's a good thing to have but I'm just really looking into keeping it going through out the season. I think it was good to have those four wins but we just have to keep it going and move forward to our next competition."
