GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The only thing that could stop CMU softball this weekend was the rain. The Mavericks swept three out of three games played all with a score of 9-0 in five innings.
Two softball players earned accolades this week for their performances. Sophomore designated player Alexa Samuels was named Fastpitch News Division II Player of the Week. She went 5-6 at the plate on Saturday with seven RBI in two games. She had two home runs including a walk-off three run jack to evoke the mercy rule.
Senior pitcher Kimbri Herring was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. She had a pair of two hit shutouts. The conference's preseason pitcher of the year struck out 12 and just allowed one walk in the wins.
The Mavericks will take their eight game win streak into their next home series against Black Hills State starting on Saturday.
