CMU Softball: Mavs take No. 1 spot

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) After an 18-0 start CMU softball sits at No.1 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Coaches' poll for the first time in program history.

"We knew as RMAC champs and tournament champs that everybody is gunning for you and they're going to bring their A-game," said head coach Ben Garcia. "It just makes it a little bit more enticing I'm sure for those teams."

The Lady Mavs have outscored opponents 181-44 with eight wins coming via mercy rule.

In RMAC play CMU has outscored opponents 89-11 with five wins coming via mercy rule.

"As soon as it comes down to getting into regional's I think it's good to be prepared with that target on your back your whole season," said junior Kellie Mrofcza. "I think it's a big deal to know that has happened already so you feel a little more confident."

The Lady Mavs continue their current road trip starting with a doubleheader against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at noon.
