CMU Softball: Mav's make quick work of CSU-Pueblo in first round

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Erik Kozel got his first win as a head coach of the Mavericks in the RMAC tournament after defeating the eight seed CSU-Pueblo 11-2.

The number one seed CMU started the scoring in the first with a two-run home run from conference player of the year AnnMarie Torres. Senior pitcher Kimbri Herring was pitching well early. She finished the game with one earned run on seven hits and had five strike outs.

In the fourth, Kaila Jacobi would send a solo shot to right center field which would give the Mavericks a 7-1 lead.

The game would end in the fifth inning after Bailey Kleespies comes off the bench and hits a two-run home run over the fence in left to bring on the mercy rule, winning 11-2.

CMU will play the fourth seeded Colorado School of Mines on Friday at 10:45 A.M.
