GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The CMU softball team was set to start the RMAC season on the road at Fort Lewis College this weekend but the weather has changed those plans as Durango has received a lot of snow. The games will be moved to play at the CMU softball field and the games will still count for RMAC play.
The Mavericks have gone 7-3 in the first two weekends and after a season where they had the nation's best offense, some early season losses have given CMU some things to work on.
"The first thing that comes to mind is pitching as far as hitting spots and locations, keeping the velocity up and also just getting hitters out," said head coach Erik Kozel. "Just more defensive attack in the sense of understanding the situation, understanding when and when not to take a risk."
"We have a lot of people who are stepping up as leaders and i think that is helping a lot of our younger players," said senior Kellie Mrofcza. "A lot of them, it's their first two weekends out playing college ball and they don't really know what to expect. I think these two weekends have really helped them kind of learn what we do here."
