GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The CMU men's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season winning five of the last six games. The Mavericks beat CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, 20-10, and they will play the Thunderwolves again on Friday in the first round of the RMAC Tournament.
CMU took home two player of the year awards in the RMAC with Jack Griffin being name the Midfielder of the Year and Chase Overton earning Co-Freshman of the Year. Head coach Vince Smith says it's a good look into the future of the program.
"It kind of symbolizes what this freshman class can bring to the table," Smith said. "There's other guys out there too. Vinny Curci, Tanner Stopkoski, Brock Harmon have done a great job on the defensive end. Matt Funkhouser and Jason Kauo have played some quality minutes at the attack position. What I would expect on Friday is to get those guys a good amount of playing time as long as we are able to get a cushion. That way, we can keep some of our older, more experienced guys fresh for Saturday's game."
