GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The lacrosse season is less than a month away and both the men's and women's programs will start in the top twenty before any games are played.
The men's team will start the season ranked 17th in the Nike/US Lacrosse preseason top 20 poll.
Last year saw a program first NCAA tournament appearance. CMU has won the season and RMAC tournament championships the last three seasons.
Jack Griffin is coming off a season where he won RMAC Midfielder of the Year and Conference Goalie of the Year Remi Reeves will be back defending for the Mavericks. He has already been named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association preseason All-American.
The women's team will start the season ranked 15th in the Nike/US Lacrosse preseason Top 20 Poll.
The Mavericks are coming off a third place finish in the RMAC going 7-2. This season the team will have two new coaches, head coach Shanta Loecker and assistant Ashley Glenn. CMU will return first team All-RMAC players Erin Koehler and Olivia Hayden.
Women's practice will begin next week and the season will start February 16 against CSU Pueblo. The men's season will begin February 7 at Maryville University in St. Louis.
