GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) With Eystin Salum unable to play this past Saturday against CSU - Pueblo, Rope Ruel had to fill in, making his Mavericks debut.
Ruel threw for 210 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Head Coach Russ Martin had praise for the junior quarterback who was up against a top 15 ranked team on Saturday.
“He came in and played really well in that game and he did a great job of managing his throws,” Martin said. “He managed the downs. He hit a couple long passes on stuff to Peter Anderson. He also threw a lot of intermediate ones that were very high percentage. He made great decisions throughout that day."
With three losses at this point in the season, some younger players will look to get more playing time to develop their skills.
"We'll just continue to get guys to grow," said Martin. "I think the more experience they get, obviously, they continue to get better."
