GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Jaylyn Duran has made a name for herself as a Maverick. She averages 23.8 points per game and currently leads the country in 3-point field goals. Over the years, she has earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and was named the U.S Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week.
" The thing I love about Jaylyn is she's gotten better every year. She's not just 1-dimensional and she's put another wrinkle in her game every year. Now it's showing, she's just doing a great job for us. It's fun to be her coach and watch her have success and put all that hard work in." said Head Coach, Taylor Wagner.
But statistics and titles aren't her priority. Helping her teammates improve and encouraging them to be better is most important to her as a leader.
" The confidence that everyone on the floor has my back. I just need to embrace that, because I can do it. It's just saying it to myself, you can do this. They all believe in me to take those shots. Now I'm just embracing that role that they're leading me into." says teammate, Katrina Chandler
To add to her list of accolades, Jaylyn recently reached over 1,000 points in her basketball career. With an impressive resume and a great support system, one characteristic that shines through...is staying humble.
