Athlete of the Week: Jack Griffin

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Jack Griffin joined CMU as a four time all-state and an all-american selection. The success he saw in high school has blossomed with the Mavericks and in his senior season, he is setting records in his best season yet.

On March 27, CMU men's lacrosse would put on a scoring clinic in a 34-7 rout of Notre
Dame de Namur. Many records were broken including Senior Jack Griffin's 10 goal, 15 point game.

"I lost track at one point but it's not really about that,” said Griffin. “I'm just running around out there going hard."

"I just have never been a part of a game where a player has had the opportunity to shoot the ball so many times from such an effective distance,” head coach Vince Smith said. “It wasn't just about Jack shooting the ball 14 times and scoring 10 goals, it was the fact that he shared the ball."

His ten goals ties him for eighth in Division II history and the Mavericks 34 goals is a new program record. The senior says that it's critical to show the team's strength as they go into conference play.

"I think it was an important thing to get going just to show everybody that we can do this, we can score a lot of goals,” Griffin said. “It doesn't have to be against necessarily NDNU or guys like that, it can be any team."

The past two seasons, Griffin has won the Conference Midfielder of the Year. In his final season, he is determined to finish his Mavericks career as a four time conference and conference tournament champ. For Griffin, that means there are no off days.

"That's the one thing that anyone who has ever been a part of our program with Jack around would say about Jack,” said Smith. “He is constantly the guy who every day at practice, game, weight room, wherever it is, he is always running and going hard."
