GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) If Camille Smith can summarize her volleyball career, it would be fun.
"I'm just trying to go all out for it. I just want to make it a really fun one because I'm definitely going to miss this sport after I'm done playing. I just want to make this a good season for my senior year so I have good memories in my mind at the end of it."
To add to those memories are just a few titles she's earned in a breakout season her junior year. But it didn't start off that way when she joined the team.
"Sophomore year, she really didn't play a lot. She had two good middles in front of her and I don't think she liked that very much. she had a really good summer between her sophomore and junior year. I think that just goes back to the hard work that she's put in" says Head Coach, Dave Flemming.
Last year, the Colorado native earned Honorable Mention All-American and was named to the All-South-Sentral Region team. Camille ranks 4th in the RMAC in highest hitting percentage. She also reached a career milestone, reaching over 500 kills.
"I want them to be the best that they can. I try to push them as hard as they can. I just really want them to exceed for themselves."
Earning RMAC Player of the Week already this season, Camille is on her way to another impressive season. If there's one piece of advice she could give herself freshman year...
"I just work hard all the time. just keep doing it and great things will happen" says Camille Smith
