FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A woman was arrested Tuesday night after authorities say she crashed her car into a canal.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the area of 19 Road and O Road in Fruita.

Colorado State Patrol said the woman drove into the canal. Troopers said her car floated for sometime before she got out.

At one point, CSP said she got out of her car and she tried to head toward higher ground. But she went back to save her dog.

The woman appeared to be intoxicated, according to state patrol, but she was not hurt.

She was booked into the Mesa County Jail on DUI charges. Her name has not been released.

The dog was taken to the Mesa County Animal Shelter.
