The Coronavirus started in China, but the first case of the pneumonia like virus has been found in Washington State.

Though the worldwide spread of this respiratory virus that can turn deadly sounds scary, local health officials say there's no need to panic yet.

The Coronavirus isn't unusual and it's a lot more common than people realize. It typically acts like the common cold. This new strain that started in China does have World Health Organization worried because symptoms are pretty severe.

"Corona viruses circulate every flu season every cold season," says Andy Tyler, Regional Epidemiologist for Mesa County Public Health. "They cause typically more common cold type symptoms. The serve ones that we are hearing about are of great concern to public health, but Coronaviruses in general are pretty common in the country and do circulate much like other common cold viruses do."

Health officials says we are more at risk at catching the flu then the Coronavirus.

The best ways to fight against any virus is by washing your hands, staying home if you're sick and avoid hanging around people who are sick.

It's not too late to get your flu shot either. The Health Department offers the vaccine and they take walk ins.
