GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Today over 100 people from the community came out to run in Mesa County's, “WeCan” 5k Race.
WeCan is an activity-based program to help overweight children between the ages of six and 18, as well as their families.
They learn about nutritional eating and practice fun exercises.
Around 120 runners came out to the beach-themed race today. They were joined by slip and slides, dancing and other engaging activities.
"A 5k is running, so that's a healthy exercise, and just getting the community involved and say hey we're here to help kids with childhood obesity and make them more healthy because that's a problem in America,” says WeCan Volunteer Alexandrina Jenny.
The program also shows kids cooking demos of healthy meals, and how to eat in portions.
