GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Monday, Aug. 12 is the first day of school for district 51 students.
Today, many families and kids were at the park enjoying their last day of summer vacation.
Doctors say it is important for parents to start getting their children on a good sleeping routine a couple of weeks before school starts because it takes time to get back on schedule.
One mom says it's been an adjustment for her and her son to get back into the routine of things.
"It's always an adjustment. It's actually an adjustment getting them into summer break and having them home all the time. But then back to school and getting them to bed early and waking up early," says Grand Junction Mom Keira Bresnahan. "So, we've been trying to go to bed earlier a little bit this week but we've failed a little bit at that.”
Doctors recommend that kids should get around eight to ten hours of sleep every night.
