GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- St. Mary's hospital celebrated the opening of their new Heart and Vascular Institute Wednesday morning.
The nearly $50,000,000 project will allow for patients to get the help they need locally. Previously, people with cardiac issues would have to leave the Grand Valley for care.
"We're now able to treat a broad array of really complex vascular disease, that in the past, would have had to go to Denver or Salt Lake," said Dr. Chris Hampson, Interventional Radiologist.
The new facility has many new accommodations, including: catheterization labs, short-stay medical suites and a cardiac rehab gym.
"It's going to bring a level of care, in cardiovascular services, to the entire Western Slope that they have not had before," said Lydia Jumonville, President and CEO of SCL Health.
Doors will open to patients on June 3.
