SHREVEPORT, La. (KKCO/KJCT) -- Chloe Zambrano of Fruita finished second runner-up at the Miss Teen USA pageant Friday.
Zambrano's finish is the best place for a Colorado Teen USA since 2007. She competed in athletic wear, and evening wear competitions and a final question for the top five.
Zambrano said she was surprised to keep advancing to the Top 15, and Top 10. In fact, she admitted she didn't pay much attention to where to stand for the Top Five question round during rehearsal because she didn't think she would advance that far.
Zambrano said before that question, she looked at the current Miss USA who told her to 'breathe' before she walked out. She said she took that advice and she answered from her heart.
Zambrano said she had a lot of support from her family and from Miss Colorado USA, Chloe Brown of Grand Junction.
"(Brown) was right up front and center and it was amazing to see her jumping up and down and crying," Zambrano said. "And having all my family members having my back. Made me feel a lot better and took away a lot of the nerves every time I walked on stage."
She said after the event, she got a lot of supportive calls and text messages from well-wishers back in the Grand Valley.
Miss Teen Kansas ultimately won the title of Miss Teen USA over Miss Teen South Carolina.
Brown will compete for the Miss USA crown on Monday. The pageant starts at 6 p.m. mountain time, but it will air on a one-hour tape delay in Grand Junction beginning at 7 p.m. mountain on Fox.
