GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Rockies Skill Challenge made it over to Grand Junction's Lincoln Park Sunday.
Once a year, children between the ages of six and 13 have the opportunity to play minor league baseball across the Western Slope.
Each child begins in their local area where they are placed into common age groups.
As they win games, they move on to sectionals and state finals, which are held in Denver. Sectionals this year were held at Lincoln Park.
"It's great for the kiddos to play with other kids, to see how their skills match up with other players in their area. As a parent we're already proud that our kids made it this far, it's a great experience," said New Castle Parent Will Brandes.
The main focus of the challenge is for kids to practice their running, hiting and catching skills.
Winners of the state finals on August 3 will be invited to attend a Rockies game during the same month.
The free program is open to both girl and boy divisions.
