Winter weather leading to road closures along I-70 into this weekend.

The northern and central mountains will see heavy snow pile up Thursday and Friday due to a winter storm. In order to keep everyone safe, the Colorado Department of Transportation will be closing mountain highways for avalanche mitigation. Officials with C-DOT say travelers should not plan to detour onto CO 9 and US 285 as driving conditions will be very dangerous due to heavy snowfall and strong winds.

Places like Aspen and Vail are under a Winter Storm Warning until Friday night. Areas under this advisory, can expect gusts to reach 30 miles per hour and eight to eighteen inches of snow by Friday night.
