Responsible pet ownership camp for kids

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- If you're still looking for some kind of summer camp for your kids, Roice-Hurst has a unique choice.

They're putting on Furry Friends Kids Camps to teach children about humane and responsible pet ownership.

Camp goers will learn about how to greet dogs and cats, how to care for them and practice positive reinforcement. They'll also learn how to practice safety, compassion and empathy.

"We look at this as a really comprehensive way to encourage positive bonds between kids and animals to really encourage kids to understand the companionship aspect that pets bring and also to just be responsible pet owners,” Anna Stout, Executive Director Roice-Hurst Humane Society, said.

There will be two four-day camps offered over the summer, with a limit of 21 kids per camp. The cost is $100. The first camp starts Monday and lasts until Thursday. The second camp goes from August 5 to 8.
