Rep. Tipton passes bill to honor Deputy Geer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Congressman Scott Tipton passed two bills through the U.S. House Friday aimed at honoring fallen western Colorado law enforcement.

One of the bills will rename a Montrose post office the "Sergeant David Kinterknecht Post Office." The other will rename the downtown Grand Junction post office the "Deputy Sheriff Derek Geer Post Office building."

Sgt. Kinterknecht was killed in the line of duty in 2009, he had served at the Montrose Police Department for ten years.

Deputy Geer was killed in 2016. He had been with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office for 15 years.

"Both Sgt. Kinterknecht and Deputy Derek Geer were respected law enforcement officers, dedicated public servants and family men. Their deaths were mourned by people throughout the third district and State of Colorado," said Rep. Scott Tipton, R-CO.


The bills were co-sponsored by other Colorado Representatives, including Governor-elect Jared Polis (D).

In total, from western Colorado, 11 officers have died in the line of duty.
