PAONIA, Colo (KKCO/KJCT)-- A possible drug lab in Paonia was busted on Tuesday, which prompted a shelter in place for local schools.

The Delta County Sheriff’s office got information about a garage that was possibly being used to make drugs.

They, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Colorado Bureau of Investigation, got a search warrant and went inside the home, which is on Highway 133.

They are still waiting on lab results, but they believe the drugs they found inside could be meth, ketamine, or MDMA, which is also known as ecstasy.

The Delta County Sheriff's Office says the production of all of these drugs involves the use of hazardous chemicals.

Investigators say the home is located less than 1,000 feet away from Paonia Junior High and High School, so a shelter in place was executed while investigators looked inside the garage.

Highway 133 was also closed briefly during this time.

There is one suspect in this case who is in custody in Michigan facing other drug charges.

One woman was found in the home, but no charges have been filed against her as of now.

The investigation in the case is ongoing.
