GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The investigation into a fire that erupted near the palisade peach festival the night of Aug. 16, continues.
The fire happened South of Riverbend Park. Officials at East Orchard Mesa say that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is suspected that fireworks were likely the cause.
On the day of the fire, there was a red flag warning. However, the warning was lifted before the fireworks happened.
“So, when those conditions occur, very susceptible to fire. So when we issue those, it's telling farmers and agricultural people, don't do any fires, outside burning,” says National Weather Service Tom Renwick.
No one was injured because of the fire, but officials say one firefighter was taken to the hospital for a heat-related illness.
