Chiropractic method uses tool to align body

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- Chiropractic care is an often overlooked part of overall health care—perhaps insurance doesn’t cover it or it’s just not a top health concern.

One Grand Junction doctor said it's actually one of the best things you can do for your body, as far as preventative care—and he uses a special method to get the job done.

Dr. Wesley Sheader at New Life Chiropractic uses what's called the Activator Method. It involves a spring-loaded instrument that gives a quick, little thrust.

In fact, Dr. Seader said this little tool provides 27 pounds of force.

"It's 20 times faster than the human muscle, so you don't get that tightening up like when you try to adjust by hand," said Dr. Sheader.

While chiropractors often use a combination of manual adjustment and the Activator Method, Dr. Sheader said activation is the most researched and the most successful.

"We want to keep the joints moving and functioning to help improve brain function and also keep the joints from degenerating," said Dr. Sheader.

It's all about complete body alignment. Sheader said he treats the person as a whole because everything fits together when it comes to your health.

And believe it or not, newborns are also prime candidate for adjustments.

"If I were able to only adjust someone one time in their life, it would be in the first year of life," said Dr. Sheader.

He said a family recently brought their two children in to get adjusted.

"It's amazing how fast they respond," said Dr. Sheader.

It's all about preventative care.

"One thing can create so many other things in the body as far as health problems," said Dr. Sheader.
