New K9 for Delta County Sheriff's Office

DELTA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Delta County Sheriff's Office says they have added a new member to their K-9 team.

Her name is Roo, and she's two years old.

The Delta County Sheriff's office says she got her first vehicle sniff September 5th, and this is the second dog the department got since this K9 program started in January of this year.

Sheriff Mark Taylor says the older dog, Oxx, is on the way out, and it was time to bring in some new talent.

"Oxx has been a K9 for I think 9 years, and he's getting ready to retire, and K9 Roo has just made it through all of his steps to become fully certified in tracking, narcotics, and apprehension," Taylor said.

Taylor says because of state laws, and the legalization of marijuana, Roo was not trained to sniff out pot.
