GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Mind Springs says their new West Springs hospital will help meet the demand for care in the Grand Valley.
They have more than doubled their psychiatric hospital beds. Now, they have 64, which is up from their previous total of 32.
Officials say this gets the facility closer to the state average of available beds, which is 12 psychiatric hospital beds for every 100,000 people.
There used to be a waiting list for care, but with the new beds, Mind Springs says they can get patients in the door much quicker.
"In the past, our average daily census or the number of people we are able to serve on a daily basis was closer to 29 to 30 folks, and we've had 42 to 46 people in our hospital almost every day since opening," said Executive Vice President of Mind Springs Health, Michelle Hoy.
They say they have more space available to expand if they feel they need to.
