Montrose County reconsidering open carrying at event center

MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Montrose County Commissioners are discussing a ban to open-carry gun rules at the Montrose County Event Center.

They say some residents were concerned about firearms after incidents around the state, like the STEM School shooting on the front range.

As it is now, you can open carry and concealed carry inside the event center.

There aren't any new rules in place for now, but commissioners say they are taking the issue seriously.

"With the emotion that has been built up within the state and local residents, we said we would look into it. We are having our legal staff do some research for us, on what other event centers are doing, and how things are playing out around the state of Colorado," said Montrose County Commissioner, Keith Caddy.

Commissioner Caddy said he is pro-Second Amendment, and said the other commissioners are too.
