Mesa County Libraries offers free book for 4-year-olds

Grace Reader Mesa County Libraries is offering a free book for all 4-year-olds in Mesa County as a part of the annual One Book Colorado program.

That program gives 4-year-olds a free book every year at local libraries to promote early literacy.

"It's important to get kids reading early because that just leads to a life of learning. Reading is learning, when you teach a child to read, that just opens up all kinds of doors for them down the road," Bob Kretschman, communications manager at Mesa County Libraries, said.

The book this year is 'Penguinaut,' a story about a penguin who takes a big trip to the moon. It's offered in both English and Spanish.

There are around 2,000 copies available here in Mesa County and 75,000 statewide.

The last day to pick one up is April 22nd.
