GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- MarillacHealth offered free dental care Thursday for uninsured children.
Kids aged 5 to 19 years old got free cleanings and check-ups.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention nearly one in four children have untreated cavities in their baby teeth. Many children even enrolled in Medicaid receive no dental services throughout the year.

The ‘Give Kids a Smile’ event is a nationwide service held by the American Dental Association. It's the 16th year for Marillac.

This year more than 400,000 kids will benefit across the country at more than 1,500 events.

"It's very important because we open especially for kids who don't have any insurance, any type of insurance, and for families they have 2 or 3 or 4 kids so it’s super important to have this opportunity in prevention,” said Diana Flinn, Dental Operational manager at MarillacHealth.

If you missed Thursdays event Marillac says they accept Medicaid, uninsured, sliding scale and offer discount programs to those who need it year round. Call them on (970) 298-6320.
