GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A man is in jail after a hit and run crash where he allegedly attacked a woman and tried to take her phone, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

In a press release, GJPD said officers were called to a crash on Horizon Drive at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

When they got there, the victim said she was driving south on Horizon Drive when a truck pulled out of a parking lot and hit her car. Police say the woman said the driver of the truck pulled up next to her and started yelling and spitting at her. She tried to take a picture of the truck, and then the driver got in front of her and stopped in the middle of the road, got out, hit her, and tried to take her phone.

Police say they started fighting, but the man got back in his truck and left when people came over to stop the fight. Police used the photo on the woman’s phone to get more information about the truck and driver from the license plate.

Friday afternoon, a GJPD officer spotted the truck in the parking lot of Mesa Mall. Police found him inside and arrested him, according to the press release. Leroy Navarrette, 25, of Grand Junction, was taken to jail on charges of criminal attempt, robbery, tampering with evidence, hit and run, and lane use violation.
