Man arrested after deadly assault in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Mesa County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in connection with an assault that left one person dead and sent another to the hospital in serious condition.

Authorities said Elias Trevino Hernandez, 31, of Grand Junction is facing second-degree murder charges, as well as robbery and assault charges. He was being held on a no-bond warrant.

Just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies said they were called to an assault in the 500 block of Placer Drive in Grand Junction, which is not far from 30 Road and Orchard Avenue.

According to a press release, deputies said they found a 30-year-old Hispanic man dead at the scene. His identity and cause of death were not immediately released.

The sheriff's office said there are no other suspects in the case, and the community is not in danger.
